Colored Diamonds
Colored Diamonds come in many different colors. The variations of colors in diamonds are caused by different reasons. Below, you will find some of the most common colored diamonds and how they are formed.
Yellow Diamonds
The yellow in fancy color as well as of white-stones is caused by nitrogen mixed into the carbon lattice. The stronger the yellow color the higher the concentration of nitrogen.
Some of the finest yellow diamonds come from South Africa
Blue Diamonds
The blue diamond is caused by boron mixed into the carbon lattice. The higher the boron concentration the more intense the blue. Blue diamonds tend to be very clean on the inside. Their grades are usually VS or higher. Some of the finest blue diamonds come from Russia and South Africa.
Green Diamonds
The green diamond is caused by radiation. When a diamond is sitting in the earth near a uranium or a radium deposit, the stone will develop a green deposit and then a green colour over many millions of years. It is important to know that green diamonds are really rare and that most greens are found in Brazil.
Pink And Red Diamonds
Pink and red diamonds are extremely rare. Red diamonds are the same as pink except they have an extremely strong tone and saturation. The pink colour is caused by graining within the stone.
A vast majority of pink and red diamonds come from Australia.
Purple Diamonds
Purple diamonds are a combination of pink and blue diamonds, thus having some boron in them.
Orange Diamonds
Orange diamonds are a combination of yellow and little bit of brown. A very intense orange is extremely rare in nature.
Black Diamonds
Black diamonds have been around for a long time, and in the last few years have started to be marketed and promoted, making them very fashionable in the jewellery industry.
